Committee - Eliza Mather
I've been horse mad all my life, however I had to settle for the odd riding school lesson as a kid and it's only been in the last few years become the proud owner of my very own horse- Hopalong Heidi. She has been named this as the first two years of ownership involved a period of 5 months box rest and three months field rest due to two separate injuries!
Heidi is 17 years young, but don't call her old and boring! ;) She is a 15.1hh "Heinz 57" Cob-X who enjoyed a previous life as a show jumper before teaming up with me to become an eventer! She loves nothing better than to gallop and jump but is not so keen on dressage (apparently the next door arenas are FAR more interesting!). She also loves carrots, pears and polos.
Having never competed before, I have spent the last year enjoying having a sound horse and getting out and about, doing a little bit of everything. We have enjoyed trying our hand/hoof at unaffiliated dressage, show jumping and local hunter trials as well as doing our first ever BE Intros at Strathallan and Scone. We both also love to go out for nice long hacks.
Our aims for 2010 are to improve our dressage and do some more BE events, maybe even braving a Pre-Novice by the end of the season... However I'm not going to tell Heidi of these plans in case she tries booking another summer off work! ;)
I've been a member of Almond RC for the last three years and having enjoyed the training and shows on offer. I'm looking forward to hopefully helping others do the same in the coming year in my first year as a committee member.
The photos are of us crossing the finish line at our first ever hunter trial (Montrave, April '09) and clearing the brush fence after the water jump at Strathallan BE Intro in August '09.
